Vinyl Neodecanoate

Vinyl Neodecanoate and Applications

Vinyl Neodecanoate
CAS No: 51000-52-3
Vinyl neodecanoate is typically prepared by the reaction of neodecanoic acid with acetylene (vinylation). Its structural formula is as shown above, in which the R groups represent a highly branched C9 tertiary alkyl chain. It is a vinyl ester of a tertiary carboxylic acid.
Vinyl neodecanoate monomer is widely used as a modifying co-monomer in the manufacture of polymers, including:
- Vinyl acetate-based latexes.
- Vinyl neodecanoate/(meth)acrylic latexes and solution polymers.
Examples of applications for polymers based on vinyl neodecanoate monomer include:
- Coatings:
- Decorative emulsion paints, plasters, and renders.
- Industrial paints and coatings, such as anti-corrosion paints, wood coatings, and varnishes.
- Adhesion-promoting primers and coatings for polyolefins.
- Construction Chemicals:
- Latexes and spray-dried redispersible powders for mortar additives and admixtures.
- Adhesives:
- Latexes for adhesives, including pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSA), construction adhesives, and wood adhesives.
- Other:
- Reactive diluent for specific heat-cured unsaturated polyester resins.
